Green Tara initation with Lama Kunga Rinpoche 24th September 2016 On September 10th 2016 Lama Kunga Thartse Rinpoche visited Sakya Buddhist Center to give the Initiation of Green Tara from the Lineage of Atisha. Lama Kunga gave very extensive teachings before and during the initiation. He described the significance of the preperations and the importance of generating the correct motivation for receiving the teachings. Lama Kunga then gave the reading transmission for the practice text and the famous Twenty One Praises of Tara, so people could practice the meditation at home. Lama Kunga showed immense kindness by welcoming everyone who came to the teaching and spending time to bless statues and mala’s that people brought to him. About Green Tara Green Tara is one of the most widely practised meditations in Tibetan Buddhism. She is the embodiment of the liberating activity of all the buddhas. The Green Tara initiation and meditation are especially effective means of awakening one’s innate capacity for enlightened compassion. About Lama Kunga Rinpoche Venerable Lama Kunga Thartse Rinpoche was born into a noble family in Lhasa in 1935. At the age of 7, Lama Kunga Rinpoche was recognized as a reincarnation of Sevan Repa, a heart disciple of Milarepa, Tibet’s great 11th century poet-saint. Rinpoche entered Ngor Monastery at age eight and was ordained as a monk at age sixteen. In 1959, Rinpoche became Vice-Abbot of Ngor Monastery in the Sakya tradition, but fled through western Tibet with some of his countrymen due to situation in Tibet. Rinpoche came to America in 1972, and subsequently established the Ewam Choden Tibetan Buddhist Center in Kensington, California.
