Lama Jampa teaches at the Mikyo Dorje Shedra, Manchester

On 9 to 10 February, at the first session of this year’s Mikyo Dorje Shedra, Lama Jampa taught the second part of Karma Thinley Rinpoche’s commentary, The Lamp that Dispels Darkness, on the Third Karmapa’s text Discriminating between Consciousness and Primordial Wisdom (Tib: Namshe Yeshe) to a large gathering of students from the UK and other countries. Further to the teaching in December of last year, Lama Jampa covered most of the remainder of the first half of the text, focusing on the Eight Consciousnesses and concluding at the section on the all-base consciousness (Skt: alaya; Tib: kunji). This was a particularly auspicious occasion as it was the 20th anniversary of the first Mikyo Dorje Shedra.
Lama Jampa also gave the reading transmissions for the dharma protector and tsok rituals associated with the “Nam-cho” Amitabha practice and the reading transmission for the Green Tara sadhana composed by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo to enable the practice of Green Tara at Kagyu Ling on the 8th day of each lunar month.

At the end of the teachings, Lama Jampa stressed the importance of ensuring the continuation of the dharma through renewing our own dharma practice and dharma community, as well as taking care of and supporting one another in the sangha. In respect of developments in the wider sangha, Lama Jampa mentioned the recent appointments of Roz Haddon and Joe Ruggiero, alongside Fred, as coordinators in Los Angeles and Ben Golding as coordinator in London.

Lama Jampa will return to Manchester on 15 February for several days for personal interviews and will continue teaching The Lamp that Dispels Darkness in July of this year. Prior to then, Kagyu Ling has the great blessing of hosting the visit of Shamar Rinpoche from 30 May to 2 June. Shamar Rinpoche will teach The Seven Points of Mind Training using the commentary composed by the 5th Shamar, Konchog Yenlak.
