Recent events in Japan 20th March 2011 A letter from His Holiness Karmapa in response to the recent events in Japan has been posted on the official website of His Holiness. Please click here to view the letter. Lama Jampa Thaye has visited Japan on two occasions as guest of the Nembutsu school of Japanese Buddhism. We have heard that, fortunately, the followers of this school and their master, the Most Ven. Dr. Kyuse Enshinjoh, are safe and their temples have not been damaged as they are some distance from the main affected areas in Japan. Tragically, the total damage in the northeast area of Japan is severe: many people have lost their lives and many others have been injured and lost everything they have. Lampa Jampa expressed his sorrow in the following address: “I am writing to express my profound sorrow at the recent tragedy that has befallen the holy land of Japan. Please be assured that the thoughts and sympathies of all dharma followers here are with their dharma brothers and sisters in Japan. We pray that all who perished be reborn in Sukhavati and that the grief of all who are bereaved, injured or homeless be swiftly pacified by the buddhas and bodhisattvas.”
